DISNEY FANTASY INAUGURAL CRUISE
We've just returned from a fantastic three days on the Disney Fantasy's
Inaugural Preview Cruise. There's tons of information and photos we want to
share with you so please check back in the next couple of days.

From the emails I've received it seems everyone wants to know about Animator's
Palate new show and menu.

DISNEY FANTASY ANIMATORS PALATE

Animator’s Palate restaurant is a customer favorite featured on all four Disney Cruise ships.
Last year, Disney Dream introduced the fantastic interactive Turtle Talk with Crush show.
This year, Disney Fantasy upped the bar by adding the brand new “Animation Magic” show to
the dining experience.  My daughter and I loved the night at Animator's Palate on Disney
Dream so we couldn’t wait to see what was in store for us on Disney Fantasy.

As soon as we were seated our waiter pointed to the paper placement and asked us to grab
a marker and draw a stick figure to help out Mickey. We could draw anything we wanted with
the only requirement being to stay within the blue lines. We were told to also sign our name
and cabin number on the placemat. I’ve never been artistically inclined as you can see in the
drawing below but I gave it my best effort. Plan to arrive to dinner on time if you have children
because you’re not given a long time to do the drawing. The diners who arrived late felt
rushed with their artwork. Not that it really matters since they all looked great in the final
show. The drawings using a lot of the available space seemed to show up better on the
screen. The key is to not draw on the blue lines. Don't follow my example!!

Right before dinner, Mickey appears on the screens scattered around the room and the show
begins. He invites guest to sit back and relax as he goes backstage to work on the show.
What follows next is a montage of Disney and Disney Pixar films set to the tune “Be Our
Guest” showing food related scenes. The scenes start with Disney characters gathering
food, then preparing food and finally eating food. After the set, the completed drawings were
collected by the servers and taken backstage. Our servers then returned quickly with drinks
and a bread basket accompanied by delicious red pepper puree.

While Mickey was conjuring up magic with our drawings we were served an appetizer
sampler of three items-melon and prosciutto, sesame crusted tuna sashimi and garlic and
herbed shrimp. The tuna was an overwhelming success and would definitely be my choice of
the three appetizers to order separately. The soup course was interesting with some diners
loving and others hating the “Corn Served Three Ways” which consisted of buttered popcorn
soup with caramel popcorn and spiced cornbread served on the side.

For the main course, three of the four adults at our table ordered the Baked Lobster, one of
my favorite dishes of the cruise. The Medallions of Venison were also said to be excellent as
well as the Pork Tenderloin with Mushroom Sauce. A young teen at our table declared the
Parmesan Crusted Chicken Fettucine to be delicious as he finished every last bite.

Between the main course and dessert the screens come to life and we finally get to see what
Mickey has been up to backstage with our drawings. The music starts and our now animated
drawings begin dancing across the stage in groups of four. It takes a second for the diners to
realize it’s THEIR artwork in the show. The room of diners erupts in cheers and laughter. I
honestly can’t remember when I’ve heard my teenage daughter laugh so much. The
animation progresses in difficulty until the final scenes show the drawings interacting with
Mickey, Donald and other Disney characters.

We were once again completely wowed by Disney technology. I don't know how they do it
especially in the short amount of time they have between picking up the placemats and the
show. On the regular seven day itinerary the "Animation Magic" show is shown one night and
the Turlte Talk with Crush show is shown on the second night rotation of the Animator's
Palate restaurant. Both shows are great so don't miss them!

The dessert menu included bite sized tastes of Banana Crème Brulee, Apple Pie and
Amaretto Cheesecake. The warm Chocolate Cake was another favorite of our table. My
daughter enjoyed the “Make Your Own Cupcake” ordered from the children’s menu. This
dessert included three small cupcakes and three frosting choices of whipped cream,
strawberry and chocolate. Another secret dessert is the Mickey Bar. This can be ordered any
night for dessert though you’ll never see it on the menu.
